LUGGAGE STORAGE DURING THE TREK

During the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu your main luggage will be stored in Cuzco at your hotel. You will receive a small duffle bag at our office after the Lares Trek briefing (briefings are normally set for the evening before you start the trek) to pack clothes for 3-4 days. Our staff will carry these bags together with the food and equipment for the trail. Please note that you will not have access to these items until the end of each day as the porters will always be ahead of the group, you should therefore bring a daypack in which you can carry personal belongings such as your camera, water and sun screen etc

FITNESS

The Lares Trek  is certainly not easy but you do not need to be an athlete or a trekking expert to complete it. Fitness is naturally important but the Lares Trek is the kind of trek that anyone with a positive attitude and determination can do. Obviously the more fit you are the more you will enjoy the trail and the more chance you will have to take in the scenery and appreciate the Inca ruins dotted along the way. If you do not exercise regularly, it is advisable to do some extra walking or some kind of aerobic activity in the months leading up to your trip.

Many people worry whether they will be able to cope physically but complete failure is rare and would usually only result from severe altitude sickness or a person lacking even a basic level of fitness. People of all ages (from teenagers to pensioners) complete the trek and age itself is no barrier if you are positive minded and live an active lifestyle. Before departing for your tour, we recommend visiting your doctor who will be able to provide you with more information.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I BECOME ILL?

Eco Path Trek includes an emergency horse for the group which can be ridden in case you feel tired or sick and of course it depends alot on what kind of illness you get and at which point on the Lares Trek. 1.- If you become ill before before the highest point of the trek ( Pachacuteq – 4700mt) and feel you can’t continue the hike, you will return to the trailhead with a porter and take the train to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu where you will meet up with your group. In the unfortunate instance you become seriously ill, we will return you either by stretcher or horse to the trailhead and bring you back to the clinic. It is very important to have travel insurance in case anything happens along the way. Extra expenses due to illnesses are covered by you.

2.- If you become ill after the highest point of the trek (4700mt) it is actually better to just continue on the trail since you are getting to lower altitude and to Machu Picchu, Eco Path Trek tour guides are extremely well-trained on how to assess the situation in case you need any assistance. Our tour guides bring oxygen tanks and first aid kits with all the typical necessary medications. If you have any special medications from your doctor it is a good idea that you bring them with you.

ARE YOU SUSTAINABLE?

Yes, We are a local sustainable & responsible tourism operator for that we incorporate the universal principle of tourism: protect the environment and benefit the local communities respecting their culture and religion. To this end, we have trained all our local staff that know, understand, feel and respect the place and the people.

ARE WE GOING TO BE DROPPED AT OUR HOTEL AFTER THE TREK?

On day 1st we will pick you up from your hotel which is included in the package and on last day we will drop you at the Main Plaza of Cusco, from this point you can take a taxi, or go walking to your Hotel,  If you have booked your hotel in the Sacred Valley like Ollantaytambo or Urubamba, we can arrange the transport but with aditional cost, according the dustance of the Hotel,

AT WHAT TIME IS THE TRAIN DEPARTURE?

It will depend on the train availability BUT the idea is to allow as much time as possible in Machu Picchu and enjoy the amazing views on the way back to Cusco from the train, we mean you will take the train at 16:22h in daylight. With this train schedule, you will have more than 9 hours for Machu Picchu and take the train during the daylight enjoying the scenic train ride.

VISTADOME TRAIN UPGRADE: HOW MUCH IS IT?

For sure you may up-grade to Vistadome train which has slightly nicer seating, typical dance shows, snacks and domed glass windows which make for better views of the high mountains and a dance show on board the train. The price is $95 per person which includes the transfer from Poroy train station to your hotel in Cusco. Most people take the tourist expedition class train and the train ride is only 2 hours from Ollantytambo and as mentioned previously – the major difference is the seating and shows, the views are the same on both trains as they follow the same route, though the Vistadome has windows in the ceiling of the train cars, so that you can see the tops of the mountains en route. If you choose to upgrade to the Vistadome train, it will return to Poroy instead of Ollantaytambo. Poroy is about 25 minutes outside of Cusco. So this means you will not stop in Ollantaytambo to catch the 2 hour bus back to Cusco, instead your train ride will be 3 hours and 30m, leave you in Poroy, and we will pick you up from there for the 25 minute drive to Cusco.

HOW LONG IS THE WAY BACK FROM AGUAS CALIENTES TO CUSCO?

It is 2 hours by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and then another 2 hours from Ollantaytambo to Cusco by bus. If you upgrade to Vistadome all the way back to Poroy (Cusco), the train is 3 1/2 hours to Poroy, then 25 by taxi to Cusco. Usually our clients are back at the hotel by 20h, if you are planning to take the bus to Puno on the same night, that is totally posible.

WHAT ABOUT THE BALANCE?

We will appreciate if you may pay in cash at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles), here in Cusco we have have many ATMs and BANK to withdraw money BUT you can pay by VISA and PAYPAL. We are required to charge an additional 6% since your card is international.
